Eucharist

Description
The Eucharist is the source that nourishes all parish ministries. The community gathers at Mass, one with each other in baptism, to receive the Eucharist that strengthens us in our shared mission to serve the common good according to our gifts.

At the table of both word and Eucharist, we are fed through the riches of scripture and the Body and Blood of Christ. In the Church’s documents on the Liturgy, it states clearly the place of the Eucharist in the life of the parish. Liturgy Documents

Eucharist: Children
Children receive the sacrament of the Eucharist (often preceded by the sacrament of Reconciliation) for the first time in 2nd grade, in the context of preparation through St. Hubert School or our Religious Education Program. There is an experiential Eucharist Workshop to further their readiness to receive the sacrament. First Communion is celebrated in May for communicants and their families.

Parent formation meetings are required, offering an understanding and history of the sacrament with an opportunity for discussion and questions. Parent sessions for the sacrament of Eucharist take place in February in the Parish Ministry Center.

Eucharist: Adults
Adults preparing to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). This process takes place over at least one year, beginning with an Inquiry period in late summer. Over the months leading up to the Easter Vigil, each catechumen or candidate is guided through a conversion process. The sacrament of Eucharist is celebrated at the Easter Vigil with the other sacraments of initiation, Baptism and Confirmation. Those who have already been baptized receive Confirmation and Eucharist at the Vigil.
