Small Church Communities (SCC) are gatherings of 8 -12 persons who reflect on the coming Sunday’s scripture readings, seeking to understand what God is saying to them in their lives today. These gatherings provide time to come together for personal reflection, faith sharing on scripture, and to consider how to respond to their own individual and family situations. It affords parishioners a time and place to gather in small groups and become “church” on a smaller level as they pray and share faith together.
What Do We Do?
Small Church Communities help persons grow in living their faith, as they reflect on God’s Word and apply it to their lives in the context of the world around them. In each of the Small Church Communities, Christian community building takes place through the bonds that are formed as a result of this faith sharing. Participants come to understand how scripture still speaks to their lives in the modern world today, and how it calls them to respond to the people and experiences that touch their lives.
What Training is Involved?
No special skills are needed to belong to a Small Church Community--only a desire to become more in tune with scripture and how God is active throughout our lives.
Time Commitment
It is up to each group to determine how often they would like to meet. Some meet once a month, while others meet twice a month or even weekly. Most Small Church Communities meet in members’ homes, though others meet in the Parish Ministry Center. Each member receives a guidebook, which is used for the evening’s reflection. New members may form a new group or join an existing group.
