What is it?
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered during the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday. During CLOW, lay leaders give our young children the experience of hearing and celebrating the Liturgy of the Word from a lectionary that is written in language they can better understand.
As the adult assembly is about to listen to the Sunday scripture readings and homily, trained adults and volunteers accompany the children to the lower level of the church. The readings for the day are read with a reflection that helps the children form a connection between scripture and their young lives. There is time for discussion in small groups to share ideas and ask questions. The celebration concludes with intercessions, and then the children return to their families in the worship space for the remainder of the liturgy.
Who should participate?
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is designed for children between the ages of 5 and 10. Suitability for children younger than kindergarten age or older than 5th grade should be decided by the parents on an individual basis.
Who should help?
