RCIA (Adults) and CMI (Children)

RCIA

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Taking a Look at the Catholic Church

A FAITH JOURNEY

  • An ongoing process
  • Continuing exploration of discipleship
  • Searching together with other adults

Will you join us on this journey?

Ways parishioners can be involved:

What is it?
The RCIA is the process by which men and women become members of the Catholic Church. Because the process is ongoing, people begin whenever the Spirit moves them to inquire. There is no formal “start.” The RCIA goes on within the context of the parish community and, after a suitable period of formation, culminates in the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation.

Who should consider RCIA?
The process of Christian initiation is for adults who are...

  • Interested in learning more about the Catholic Church
  • Unbaptized, seeking Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist or searching for spirituality in your life
  • Baptized, but have never received any formal religious education or completed the sacraments of initiation, Confirmation and Eucharist
  • Married to a Catholic and you attend Mass with them, and you want to share in their faith
  • Seeking something in your life, but are not sure what it is

Formation includes several areas:
Scripture: the stories of God’s people
Teaching: what Catholics believe
Prayer: how we communicate with God
Liturgy: how the community worships
Mission: how we live out what we believe

Some RCIA terms:
Catechumenate: the process of formation leading to entrance into the Catholic Church
Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist
Catechumen: an unbaptized person who seeks entrance into the Church
Candidate: a person baptized in another Christian faith tradition that seeks membership in the Catholic Church

HOW DOES IT WORK?
God calls and we respond. In the process of Christian Initiation, men and women at all stages of the faith journey come together in a non-threatening, non-pressured atmosphere to learn more about the Catholic Church as their way of following Jesus.

The RCIA provides a forum for shared spiritual growth and a means to explore the Catholic Christian tradition through the scripture, sacraments, church teaching and social outreach, all in the midst of the Catholic faith community.

CMI - Children’s Ministry of Initiation

Preparing Children for their Faith Journey

CMI seeks to strengthen family relationships, build connections into the parish life at St. Hubert, and enhance family participation in the Sunday Liturgy.

Children’s Ministry of Initiation (CMI) is a component of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). CMI is a spiritual journey in faith for children and their parents. Together families discover what it means to be a follower of Christ. Children of catechetical age (seven years of age and older) are prepared to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Reconciliation.

CMI’s Mission
The mission of CMI is to guide children in their faith journey and to prepare them to receive the sacraments. This journey of faith is accomplished through

Scripture: the stories of God’s people.
Teaching: what Catholics believe.
Prayer: how we communicate with God.
Liturgy: how the community worships.
Mission: how we live out what we believe.

CMI helps to strengthen family relationships by encouraging the entire family to enter the process.

CMI will enhance family participation in Sunday Liturgy and enable families to build relationships within the parish life of St. Hubert.

Time and Talents
CMI also provides a place where active members of the faith community can share their faith journey, gifts and talents with others.

childrensCMI is in need of experienced catechists or people who have participated in the RCIA process and are now willing to serve as catechists. Ministers should feel comfortable working with adults, children and families. CMI also needs sponsor families or individuals who are willing to support a family on this faith journey. CMI meets each Sunday morning from October to June. This ministry continually provides training and information.
