SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD
The St. Hubert Catholic School Advisory Board is a leadership group within the ministry of Catholic schooling. School Advisory Board members are elected by the registered parishioners of St. Hubert Parish.

SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD MISSION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The mission of the St. Hubert School Advisory Board is to encourage and foster a faith-based educational environment at St. Hubert Catholic School, providing leadership and communication among the administration, students, parents, and teachers. The School Advisory Board members provide counsel and advice to the pastor and the principal in the operation of the school. This includes policy, finance review and assistance in the overall development of the school in accordance with the direction set forth by the Archdiocese of Chicago. More specifically, School Advisory Board Members:

  • Review and advise on the tuition rates and other sources of financing.
  • Participate in the school’s development, student recruitment efforts and long-range plans.
  • Act as the public relations and marketing arm of the school and its programs.
  • Support the efforts of local legislative action.

The School Advisory Board is not responsible for:

  • Acting as a grievance committee or conciliators for any group or party.
  • Hiring, evaluating or terminating faculty and staff; nor do they advise the principal in personnel matters.
  • Administering the school or telling the principal how to administer the school.
  • Implementing policies and procedures.


School Board Members actively participate in Board Standing Committees which currently are: FINANCE, LEGISLATIVE ACTION, and DEVELOPMENT CORE TEAM (Fundraising, Public Relations and Marketing, Student Recruitment and Retention, Alumni Relations). Major events for the Development Core Team include Track a Thon and the Black and Gold Gala. Additional ad hoc committees are added as needed.

SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER ELIGIBILITY AND ELECTION:
  • No immediate family of a salaried employee shall be eligible for board membership. Immediate family includes spouse, child, parent, brother, sister, or in-law.
  • Those currently serving as a member of the Parish Pastoral Council or the Parish Finance Council or as a Family and School Association (FSA) Officer/Committee Head or Athletic Board Members are not eligible for Board membership.
  • Membership is not limited to parents of students at St. Hubert Catholic School.
School Advisory Board members are elected by the registered parishioners of St. Hubert Parish as well as parents of children enrolled in the school. The elections take place the third weekend of May. A School Advisory Board Member holds a term of three years (up to two consecutive terms). Officers are nominated and elected by the board.

SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD MEETINGS:
The regular School Advisory Board (SAB) meeting shall be held on alternating months on generally the second Thursday at 7:30pm in the School Library, unless otherwise communicated. Board members are also encouraged to attend Development Core Team (DCT) meetings, as this is a sub-committee of the School Advisory Board. Meetings are held from August to May/June. When this date falls on a holiday, holy day or other special day, the meeting will be held at the earliest possible time. Attendance is required at Monthly Board Meetings.

Visitors are welcome to observe the Board while it is in session. They do not engage in Board discussion nor do they actively participate in the Board meeting agenda either through comments or by offering their opinions on the topic being discussed. Once the visitor is recognized, the visitor has one opportunity to express an opinion on the matter at hand. Each visitor may speak for three minutes on matters that concern the Board. There is no discussion or debate between the visitors and the Board Members.
