St. Hubert Religious Education Nurturing spiritual growth in children and their families

What We’re About

There is no more important task within the Church than passing on the faith from one generation to the next. Parents are obviously the foundation. Our goal is to build on this foundation and create an environment that gives children the opportunity for spiritual growth by nurturing their appreciation and knowledge of their faith. We teach a curriculum that emphasizes Gospel values and the necessity of deepening our relationship with Jesus, the source and model for Christian life. Compassion and empathy for others is the most striking testimony of his life, and therefore a measure of discipleship. It is our objective that children embody Christian values into everyday life. The underlying philosophy of our ministry stems from the Second Vatican Council to make faith, living, conscious and active. It is important that children be involved in the parish from an early age so that they acquire a consciousness of being an active member of our community. This involvement centers around the Sunday Liturgy, which should be part of the fabric of a child’s life, along with prayers, values, and works of charity that are taught at home.

Who Can Be a Catechist?

A catechist should be a person of faith, as well as a faithful member of the community. Catechists have a basic understanding of Church teaching, are able to communicate well with children, be willing to learn and should be able to follow a lesson plan.

Is There Training?

There are training opportunities offered throughout the year. The Director of Religious Education will meet with new catechists individually to ensure that they are comfortable going into the classroom. The best support for catechists may be the regular monthly meetings with other catechists at their grade level, where they pray together and plan their lessons for the next month.

What is Catechist’s Time Commitment?

Religious Ed classes are on Wednesdays after school or on Saturday mornings.

  • Wednesday classes are 4:00-5:45 p.m.

  • Saturday classes are 9:00-10:45 a.m.

There are 21 classes in the school year, which meet September through April. All classes are held in St. Hubert School. There are monthly planning meetings.
