Music Ministry

  • Children’s Choir

  • Ministry of the Cantor

  • St. Hubert’s 6:00 PM Choir and Ensemble

What Do We Do?

Our 9:00 AM and 10:45 AM Choir and Ensemble, Children’s Choir, Cantors and 6:00 PM Choir and Ensemble lead the assembly in songs that praise God and lift our hearts. They sing all styles of music, from Chant to Christian Rock. Music is part of almost every event at St. Huberts. The most important contribution of the music ministry is participation at weekend, Holy Week, and Christmas Liturgies. We have also performed in concert for our community and have hosted concerts from visiting artists as well.

St. Hubert’s 9:00 AM and 10:45 AM Choir and Ensemble

The singers from this choir rehearse once a week from 7:30-9:30 PM in church. Rehearsals generally begin in mid-September and end in late May or early June. The instrumentalists have one special rehearsal with the choir before each major holiday season (Christmas and Easter) in addition to rehearsing with the choir 25 minutes before each Mass on Sundays. The singers split into two groups which sing at either the 9:00 AM or 10:45 AM Mass on Sundays all year round.  Some sing at both masses.  These groups combine to sing for special holidays during the year. Singers and instrumentalists of all ages are encouraged to join. Instrumentalists must audition. Singers, just bring your voice and your enthusiasm! All levels of skill are welcome.

Ministry of the Cantor

To be a cantor an audition is required. Being a choir member is a good way to receive training that can prepare one to be a cantor. Cantors receive additional training and preparation at least once a month, at the end of choir rehearsals as needed. Cantors are scheduled to sing for one to four Masses per month depending upon their availability and the Church’s needs.

Children’s Choir

Children third grade and up can sing in the Children’s Choir. Rehearsals are once a week for 45 minutes, in the early evening. They sing at the 9:00 Mass about once a month, and for the Christmas Eve 2:30 Mass and the 9:00 Easter morning Mass. Rehearsals begin in late September, and the last day that they sing for Mass is on Mother’s day.

St. Hubert’s 6:00 PM Choir and Ensemble

High School and College age teens and young adults in their 20’s & 30’s make up this choir. They minister weekly at the 6:00 PM liturgy on Sunday and sing for Confirmation as well as other special liturgies throughout the year. Rehearsals are on Monday nights from 7:30-9:15 PM in the Church. Also, instrumentalists meet for warm-up/rehearsal at 4:45 and vocalists at 5:00 on Sundays before Mass. The choir sings year-round. Cantors for the 6:00 PM Mass are selected from among members of this choir.

A Note From         The Director

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as your new Director of Music. I grew up in the Western suburbs of Chicago and went to college in Austin, Texas; I returned to Illinois in order to be closer to my family and to work in the Archdiocese of Chicago.  For the past 10 years or so, I have ministered in St Victor Parish (Calumet City) and St Mary Parish (Riverside). Moving steadily northwest, I find myself in Hoffman Estates, looking forward to a new ministry experience at Saint Hubert. I have had the pleasure of meeting some of your parish staff and musicians, and I hope to meet many more of the good people of Saint Hubert in the weeks and months to come. I am happy to be joining your parish family, having heard good things from Norma Garcia and others who know you. I look forward to serving the church and worshipping the Lord with you, carrying on your traditions and creating a new future together in the years to come.

What We’re About

Music is at the heart of worship. It is one of the most beautiful forms of prayer. Whether participating or just listening, music touches all of us in a deep and meaningful way. We can express our love, our joy, and even our sorrow through music. Our mission is to serve God through inspiring music that touches people’s hearts deeply with God’s love, wisdom and healing.
