Liturgy Board
Serves as a Source of Support for the “Hands-On” Ministries
Liturgy board members must have a love of liturgy and scripture. They must have leadership skills,
knowledge of Vatican II liturgy recommendations, openness to new ideas and
willingness to learn. Members of the liturgy board must have listening skills
and an ability to work as a team-member.
St. Hubert’s Liturgy Board
St. Hubert’s Liturgy Board is responsible for evaluating and assessing the way liturgies are celebrated,
developing ministers, and educating the parish about liturgy’s role and function
in their lives. The board provides direction for those persons who plan the
liturgical seasons, sacramental celebrations, and other liturgical events. The
collective efforts of board members assure the development of all ministries at
St. Hubert’s so that good liturgy is done by all who participate.
Responsibilities
Training and formation of board members and liturgical ministers Insuring pastoral continuity for all
liturgy at St. Hubert’s Evaluating liturgical seasons to determine what helped
the community to pray and what distracted from community prayer Exploring local,
national and universal trends of the church Connecting liturgy with the Peace &
Justice Committee so that parishioners can see the relationship between social
concerns and liturgy Providing children’s Liturgy of the Word Making connection
with teens at worship Serving on the New Church building committee to shape the
new church so that the new building will enhance parish liturgies
How Does It Work?
The liturgy board serves as a source of support for the “hands-on” ministries involved in liturgy. Thus, some
members of the Liturgy Board represent a parish liturgical ministry group, such
as lectors, Eucharistic ministers, Mass coordinators, etc. Others represent the
assembly at large. Members should be willing to attend seminars and workshops.
They should keep up-to-date by reading liturgical publications and documents.
The Liturgy Board meets once a month, except August, and has one weekend retreat
each year.
Practice and Performance
The Liturgy Board is responsible for the liturgical education of the parish, training for liturgical
ministers so that good liturgy is done well by all who participate. The board
does this in a variety of ways: bulletin articles, brief presentations at Mass
and a good experience at weekend liturgies to promote liturgical education to
the community. It raises awareness of social justice in liturgical celebrations,
e.g., food and clothing drives, prayers of petition, racism banners, baskets to
collect offerings for the poor. It provides a welcoming environment by training
greeters and ushers to be friendly and helpful, and promotes community through
multi-cultural liturgies and attention to all ages and backgrounds of those who
worship as one. The Liturgy Board organizes a ministry night, sets up training
time for liturgical ministers, and supports the continuous spiritual development
of all liturgical ministries in the parish. The Liturgy Board provides for the
communal needs of the parish in the liturgies, i.e., Vigils for Peace, All Souls
shrine for loved ones, morning and evening prayer services, blessings for scouts
and other groups, etc.
