Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 and has been successful in our parish for many years. The group
was founded to help men remain steadfast in their faith through mutual
encouragement and to setup a system of insurance so that widows and children of
members of the group who die would not find themselves in dire circumstances.
One of the primary missions of the Knights of Columbus is to insure that the
Catholic Church remains vigorous and active. Toward this end, the Knights feed
the hungry and help to shelter the homeless. They help senior citizens remain
active and healthy. The Knights of Columbus sponsor blood drives and fight to
protect the right to life of all individuals.
Local and International Needs
The Knights of Columbus make yearly donations to St. Hubert’s Spread Program, conduct blood drives at the
parish, help out on donut days, and donate financially to different needs of the
parish. The Knights of Columbus supply the Honor Guard for the Bishop at
confirmation ceremonies. To encourage the strength of the Church, the Knights of
Columbus founded the “Vicarius Christi” fund, whose earnings are conveyed
annually to the Pope for his charities. Since its inception, the Vicarius
Christi fund has generated more than $27.8 million for the Pope’s good works.
The Knights of Columbus have played an active role in bringing the Pope to the
world. The group has funded the cost of televising papal ceremonies, underwrote
the renovation of the entire façade of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and funded
the statues of Sts. Peter and Paul in St. Peter’s Square in Rome.
Ministry Vision
Throughout its history, the Knights of Columbus have espoused the belief that family is paramount in
promoting the Catholic faith at the local, national and international levels. As
a result, the Knights of Columbus at St. Hubert’s parish stress the importance
of family life. All Knights of Columbus programs allow families to work together
to aid their church, their community and one another. To become a member of the
Knights of Columbus does not require any special training, but it does demand a
willingness on the part of the individual to help others.
Time Commitments
The Knights of Columbus hold their monthly business meetings at 8:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each
month in the Hughes Center of St. Matthew’s Parish, which is located on
Schaumburg Road, just east of Plum, Grove Road. Individuals are encouraged to
give as much time to the Knights and the parish causes as they deem fit,
remembering the importance of family life to the promotion of the Christian
faith.
