  • Finance Council

Meet the St. Hubert Finance Council

(photo from meeting on 3-3-08)

Members:  (Listed back row then front row) Ken Szott, Mary Ellen Nowak, Father Bob Rizzo, Jack Lackinger, Teresa McCutchan (St. Hubert Business Manager – consults with the Finance Council), Bill Kelley, Joanmarie Wermes, Don Ripoli, Dean Hoppesch, Clarence Owens, Mary Ann Flynn, Julie Bosshart (not pictured Paul Caponigri).

Purpose & History:  The Finance Council has an advisory and consultative role with the Pastor.  Every Parish is required to have a Finance Council.  The current Finance Council has been in place since January 2006.  Chairperson Don Ripoli has served on the Finance Council for over 20 years.

Membership:  The Finance Council membership should be drawn from the parish community and reflect its diversity.  Members currently serving on the Finance Council have backgrounds in Audit, Finance, Accounting, Business, Communications, Real Estate, Law, and etc.  Members cannot have a conflict of interest in view of other services, paid or unpaid, rendered to the parish.  Members cannot be related to the Pastor.  No parish employees or members of the family of an employee may serve on the finance council.

Meetings & Communications:  The Finance Council meets as needed, but at least once a quarter.  The Finance Council meetings are not open to the parish community due to confidentiality of financial matters.  Financial results are communicated to the parish periodically in the bulletin and summarized financial statements are reported once a year.

Role:  The Finance Council works closely with the Pastor, who is accountable for the administration and stewardship of the temporal goods of the Parish.  More specifically, the Finance Council reviews financial statements, budgets, internal controls and parish expenditures greater than $10,000.  Members are assigned to subcommittees including Budget, Facilities & Maintenance, Financial Planning & Development, and Communications.  Members also act as liaisons to other parish groups such as the Parish Council, School Board, Religious Education, and Youth Ministry.

Questions?  The Finance Council Chairperson is Donald Ripoli.  He can be contacted through Teresa McCutchan, 847-885-7700 at St. Hubert Parish.  Her email is tmccutchan@sainthubert.org.

Communications is a work in progress-

Some SURVEY RESULTS on how we are doing, click here

All recommendations are being considered.

Several months ago, the Communications Ministry asked all parishioners to respond to a survey on communication vehicles within the parish, specifically the parish bulletin and our parish Web site, www.sainthubert.org.

Well, we want to thank the nearly 200 people who took time out of their busy lives to fill out the survey, and here are some of the highlights from the survey:

  • There were 196 responses to our survey and nearly every one of them said they read the bulletin either sometimes (5%) or frequently (94%). Moreover, nearly everyone of the respondents (99%) indicated that they read Father Rizzo’s weekly letter.
  • Almost all of the respondents said that the weekly Church bulletin is their major source of information about parish events and upcoming activities. At the same time, more than 90% of those people who filled out the surveys said they consulted the bulletin to find out information about parish ministries, check when various events are taking place within the parish, and to learn more about the liturgy. Many people also commented that they liked the new look and format of the current bulletin.
  • Although only about half of the respondents said they visited the parish Web site, many indicated that did not frequent the site because they did not have a computer. On the other hand, of these people who went on the Web site to fill out the survey, nearly 95% of them said that the site does a good job of providing church and school information. Moreover, visitors to the Web site most frequently came looking for information about ministries, Holy Day and holiday Mass schedules, parish/staff contact information, and weekly bulletins.
  • As with any survey, there were some questions that were split nearly 50/50.  For example, nearly half the people responding to the survey said they loved Fr. McBrien’s theology column, while the other half said the column should not appear in the bulletin. It also appears that only half of the respondents want a dedicated children’s page in the bulletin or a regular article from our Deacons.

The Communications Ministry has tabulated the survey results and presented them to Father Rizzo, along with some recommendations to improve the bulletin and Web site based on your FEEDBACK. The survey results can be viewed by  CLICKING HERE.  Some of your suggestions that have already been implemented include updating Web site information, creating a table of contents and “drop down” boxes on the What’s New page, and posting pictures and additional information about the Church renovation project.

Suffice it to say, our bulletin and Web site are communication vehicles and they are not etched in stone. As such, they will be tweaked, prodded, changed, and upgraded as time and finances permit. Moreover, additional decisions on how to improve the bulletin and Web site will be made keeping your survey responses in mind. Thank you again for your feedback!

Dear St. Hubert Parish-Church, School, Alumni-Families,

On behalf of the 2008-2009 St. Hubert School Advisory Board, I would like to welcome everyone to a new school year at St. Hubert School.  We are looking forward to an exceptional 2008-2009 school year.

St. Hubert School is committed to Fostering Faith, Imparting Knowledge, and Developing Community.  All of the School Board Members seated on the St. Hubert School Advisory Board are committed to working with our Pastor Father Robert Rizzo, our Principal Mr. Vito DeFrisco, and our Assistant Principal Mrs. Alison O'Connor, in providing the best education possible for our children.

We ask this school year that our ST. Our newly formed DEVELOPMENT CORE TEAM composed of four arms covering the development areas of FUNDRAISING, COMMUNICATION, STUDENT RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION, ALUMNI RELATIONS is looking for volunteer committee help.  Please contact us at office@sthubertschool.com and say that you will share with us your time, talent, and/or treasure to help ensure the success of the development efforts of our school.
